Silvio Rodriguez, by the father, and Dominguez, through his mother, was born on November 29, 1946 in San Antonio de los Baños, a town located in a fertile valley in Havana, mostly tobacco area in the heart of a peasant family. His grandfather was a tobacco and met José Martí, Silvio when she was 12 years. His father, Víctor Dagoberto Rodríguez Ortega, was a peasant, and he was always liberal and socialist ideas. His mother, Algeria Domínguez León, was a hairdresser. Silvio has stated on several occasions that his love of music comes from his mother, who spent the day singing boleros and sones Santiago. Silvio was a guy who played bass, but from the musical point of view, was his mother who slept with trova songs, bathed with danzones, swept with boleros and sones cooked with. His mother must be music by vocation, and has in fact collaborated with Silvio sporadically in some jobs.
Silvio has been a student, educator, employee dining, artist, soldier, singer and father. He was employed on Cuban television and worked with the group's sonic experimentation ICAIC (Cuban Institute of Arts and Cinematographic Industry), where he recorded his first albums and songs. He began writing poetry at seven or eight years. In the magazine "Mella" drew a cartoon called "The Hole", a deep story, with text by Norberto Fuentes. While working there, he learned the first guitar chord with fellow Lazaro Fundora.
At 16 he resumed piano studies, but had to leave again when, on March 4, 1964, was called to compulsory military service-SMO-Revolutionary Armed Forces-FAR. Silvio left for the country's western region. He was 17 when he was sent first to a unit in Pinar del Rio for three months. Developed after an initial period of twelve weeks of training in Unit 3234, Infantry, in Artemis, and was transferred to Unit 1087, Rear Services of the Western Army. Subsequently, located at 2107, Communications in El Calvario, he received a course of Telegraphy and developed the work of assistant radio operator.
Then he bought a guitar. In the army Bathrooms met Stephen, who learned much of the guitar. Since that time, no more abandon the instrument. In all that time I never stopped writing poems and wrote some stories. Between 1964 and 1965 he composed his first songs. In 1967 he debuted in the TV stars and musicians, dressed in his military boots, as explained later, was all I had to wear. His first performance was at the Museum of Fine Arts. At that time did a duet with Luis Lopez, sang songs and presented twice at festivals Fans FAR. They were not winning, but they were congratulated. In 1975, when he had eight years of professional and had written hundreds of songs, makes his first solo album, Day and Flores.
